ObjectivesInterior design services were performed for a new construction home in Coronado, CA. The clients desired a contemporary and Asian feel to the interior spaces. Additionally, the clients had several pieces of artwork and a 4' terra cotta Chinese warrior sculpture that required placement and coordination within the decor.
Solutions
Stone flooring and taupe paint colors were selected for the entire home to achieve a natural, soothing feel that compliments the contemporary and Asian elements. Additionally, these textures and colors provide a complimentary background for striking views of the downtown San Diego from the client's living room.
Placement of the 4' terra cotta Chinese warrior sculpture proved a unique challenge. To showcase the sculpture, the powder room shower stall was reworked with a platform and curved wall with a custom painting of the Great Wall of China. Stone flooring and tile was used to tie the room to the sculpture and wall painting.
In the dining room, the stone flooring was continued to create continuity and openess between rooms on the first floor. A watercolor collage painting in vivid bluegreens was placed on the main wall. The dining furniture was reupholstered to accent the painting. Cabinetry color, door style and fixtures were selected to coordinate with the style of the dining furniture. The built-in cabinetry provides additional storage and convenience for regular dining and entertaining, as well.
Client Testimonial
“Sandra is a joy to have as a decorator. Her pleasing personality, tremendous expertise and professionalism made the project an enjoyable experience.
She is flexible and listens to what the client has in mind. She does not try to force her opinions and instead, gently makes suggestions that are invariably "right on." She was invaluable in making decisions when we built our home. I even trusted her to make decisions while we were out of town during construction and her choices were perfect.
Additionally, Sandra is also well-connected to the right craftsmen for custom work. I have recommended her to many of our friends and they have all been as pleased.” - C. Perkins
