ObjectivesThis ranch style home in La Jolla was built in the 1940's and needed a fresh new look and revised floor plan. The project was a collaboration with interior designer, MaryClare Brandt, ASID. (The original home can be viewed in the sequence of enlarged photos.) A second structure in the rear of the property housed a rental unit. In addition to an updated interior and exterior for the main house, the clients' desired to convert the rental unit into office space and tie the two structures together visually though the shared backyard. SolutionsSweeping curves were used at the entry to create interest and a focal point for the front of the home. A neutral color palette in taupe browns was also used to promote the feeling of a home near the beach in La Jolla. Fencing was removed in the front of the house to open up the front yard and highlight the homes new exterior look. Interior Designer Testimonial“For the past 10 years, Jack Wagenaar has been the architect on several of my remodel and new construction interior design projects, and the structural design consultant on most projects. Jacks expertise both in architecture and structure adds value for our clients. He collaborates well, both on the structural issues pertaining to interior design, and, on the integration of architectural concepts with interior design concepts. He is a knowledgeable professional who is a pleasure to work with.” - MaryClare Brandt, ASID > view next project, Spencer Tri-plex (3 of 4) < return to Architecture |
